Finding a Field for Your Tipi: A Beginner’s Guide

Now it’s one thing trying to figure out what tent you want for your wedding, private event, or festival hire, but finding the right field to put it all in? Now that’s a completely different ball game! and unfortunately, it’s just one more thing you have to think about. The location you choose can shape the entire atmosphere, practicality, and overall experience of your event, so no pressure. As you may have seen in our Man Vs Field blog post, we’ve seen our fair share of site locations over the years, so I reckon it’s pretty safe to say we’ve built up a pretty solid knowledge of what works well for outdoor Tipi events. Whether you’re planning a scenic wedding, private celebration, or a large festival setup, we’re here once again to point you in the right direction for that perfect event space.

There’s a multitude of ways to find the perfect field, whether that’s through a simple internet search, Google Maps, field-finding apps such as fieldlover.com or even word of mouth. Some venues advertise themselves online, whilst others may simply be privately owned farmland where the land-owner is open to hosting events if approached directly. Sometimes the best locations are the ones that aren’t heavily advertised or even known at all.

The first thing you should think about is what you actually want from your field and what type of event you’ll be holding. Outdoor Tipi events tend to need a good amount of space, so somewhere rural is often the best place to start. The countryside usually provides more flexibility, better views, and fewer restrictions, especially if you’re planning on playing music late into the evening or even through the night. Being further away from residential areas can make a huge difference when it comes to noise and privacy, helping you to enjoy your event without limitations.

Guest numbers are another major factor to consider. One Giant Hat Tipi can comfortably cover around 50 guests, so whether you need a single Tipi or a larger linked setup, your field size will need to reflect that. It’s also important to leave enough room for everything else that comes with an outdoor event, including catering tents, toilets, generators, parking, and so on. You should also think carefully about access and amenities. Some fields may already have power, water, or toilet facilities available, whilst others may require everything to be brought in externally. We cover a more of these issues in detail in our Man Vs Field blog if you’d like to know more.

When it comes to actually finding a privately owned field, contacting estates, farms, and countryside venues directly is usually a great place to start. It’s also worth speaking to your Tipi company you’re hiring from (Ahem…wink wink), as they may already know some private venues that work particularly well for Tipi setups and outdoor events. If you’re struggling, you could also look into large outdoor Airbnbs, luxury camp sites, or eco retreats that may offer suitable outdoor space. Google Maps and field-finder apps such as Fieldlover, can really help you find some real hidden gems, and sometimes, landowners who don’t advertise event hire may still be open to the idea if approached. A simple enquiry can sometimes lead you to the perfect location.

Finding the perfect field is about balancing practicality with atmosphere and budget. The right location can completely transform your wedding, private event or festival into something unforgettable. Hopefully this blog post has helped take you one step closer to finding the perfect setting for your outdoor Tipi event.
